Volunteering

Tangi Humane Society has wonderful, hard-working volunteers, but we can always use your help!

There are MANY different tasks available! Some big, some small! Some with poop, some without! (lol)
Our biggest role to fill right now is our routine kennel cleaning (18+ years old only) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings (takes roughly 2 hours).
Also, talk to us if you would be interested in office tasks that might be coming available, an evening hour with the dogs (around 5-6pm), or weekend hours (Saturday adoption events and Sunday mornings at the shelter).
We allow volunteers to be as young as 10 years old if a parent/guardian is physically with them at all times.

If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, do one of the following:
- text "VOLUNTEER" to (504)451-7763
- E-mail stopcruelty33@gmail.com
- call during office hours, (985)419-9900
- stop by during office hours
46219 River Rd, Hammond

Here are some of the ways our volunteers help!

Dishwashing and Yard Cleaning

This involves washing dirty bowls and picking up the yard where the dogs run.  This typically takes about 30 minutes, and can be done anytime during normal business hours.

Laundry

At this time THS has the ability to do laundry on site.  We are grateful for volunteers who are willing to run a load of dirty linens, put them in the dryer, and fold them.

Dog Bathing

We give the dogs baths most Fridays before our Pet Adoption Days, and volunteers are always welcome!

Yard Time
Come play! The happiness of our pups is a huge priority, so having friends come by to let them out for a bit (usually in assigned pairs) and maybe throw the ball a time or two means the world to them. Depending on the fullness of the shelter, this can be done in about an hour, but feel free to take longer!

Kennel Cleaning

(Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older for this task)

Dogs are fed, watered and their kennels are cleaned on a daily basis.  Dogs may be socialized and exercised in the play yard.  This takes about 2 hours, and is typically done in the morning.

Adoption Events

Our adoption events are usually held on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm, so we need volunteers to unload the trailer and set up kennels at the designated adoption site.  During the event volunteers are needed to walk, water, and "wuv" (love) the dogs to aid in their socialization.  Volunteers will also meet and greet potential adopters explaining the THS adoption process and give as much history about the animals as they know.  Minors may help out at adoption events with parent's signature on volunteer application.  Depending on age, parental supervision may be required.

Evening Short Shift
This takes place somewhere between 5pm and 8pm depending on volunteers schedules and involves a quick cleaning of kennels and some yard time for the pups! Typically takes about an hour.
